More than a reading list.
Xanoriq was born from a simple observation: Indonesia has an incredible wealth of readers, but lacks a centralized, high-rigor framework for literary analysis and communal growth.
The Xanoriq mission is to advance the Medan literary scene by bridging the gap between casual reading and deep inquiry.
Structured Inquiry
We don't just ask if you liked a book. Our discussion frameworks are built on structuralist and post-structuralist analysis, encouraging members to dismantle narratives and understand the cultural mechanics at play.
Localized Curation
While our scope is global, our context is Indonesian. We prioritize works that resonate with the complexities of our archipelago, ensuring that every curated list serves a purpose within our specific cultural landscape.
Standard of Membership
Intellectual honesty is our baseline. We maintain a high standard for participation to ensure that every session adds value. You can read more about our community expectations on our Member Standards page.
// 01 Origins
A response to the fragmented digital reading culture.
2021: The Formative Year
Xanoriq began as a private email chain between three students in Medan. The goal was to share reading lists that were ignored by mainstream bestseller charts. By the time the fourth list was published, the chain had grown to 400 readers across North Sumatra.
We realized that the Xanoriq history wasn't just about sharing titles; it was about building a safe harbor for the intellectually curious who felt alienated by surface-level social media reviews.
Evolution
In 2023, we moved from an informal newsletter to a documented digital community. This transition allowed us to build the frameworks for analysis that currently define our monthly cycles.
The Initiatives
The founders behind the Xanoriq initiative are committed to long-form reading as a tool for cognitive resilience and social understanding.
Director of Curation
Siti Rahayu
With a background in comparative literature and cultural studies, Siti manages the selection process for our Reading Lists. Her focus remains on expanding our reach into Southeast Asian political philosophy.
Community Strategy
Andi Wijaya
Andi oversees the digital infrastructure that connects our readers from Medan to Jakarta. He ensures the discussion frameworks remain accessible yet intellectually challenging for our 2,000+ active participants.
